The cities of Lake Charles and Sulphur, LA and Orange, Vidor, Beaumont, and Port Arthur, Texas suffered minimal damage compared to the towns along the coastal area. The heavy marked Highways are highlighted to denote the route of travel where the major destruction occurred. The townships of South Cameron, Grand Cheiner, Oak Grove, Creole, Cameron, Holly Beach no longer exist.

This is the beginning of the destruction of Hurricane Rita starting from the East at Delcambre on Louisiana Highway 14 then to Coastal Highway 82 to Oak Grove then North through Creole and North.

Delcambre suffered floods of 4-5 feet, most homes had household furniture stacked in front to be disposed of.
